Kitchen - Done, Finally!

The weather is finally nice enough to have the windows open, so the painter was here today to remove all traces of the stencil design in the kitchen. I tried - but two coats of water-based Kilz didn't make a dent in covering it up and I never mess with anything oil-based.

I had never replaced the original contractor ceiling fixture over my breakfast area. A chandelier wasn't a good choice because the wiring was not centered over my table and couldn't be without ceiling and electrical work. I just didn't want to get into that mess. Last week, looking at another decorating blog, I came up with the idea of a schoolhouse light.

I hope this is it with the kitchen for awhile!

Kitchen Update

For 18 years I had mini blinds in the kitchen and really didn't mind them - they were just there and I didn't actually notice them that much. But when the new counters were installed they seemed to stand out like a sore thumb and I wanted matchsticks. I found that All About Blinds, a local company I've used before, was much more reasonable than any of the catalogs and they also come out to be sure the measurements are accurate, hang the new blinds, and take the old ones away. I had to have them lined, though, because we have a "white window" restriction in this neighborhood.

The blinds don't look that great with the stencil, though, and since it's been around awhile, I think it's got to go.

New Lamp and Done!

My new lamp arrived and I'm happy with the way it looks. I think that's it with redecorating for awhile....

New Pillows

I decided I wasn't crazy about the plaid pillows so I recovered them in a brown and natural stripe.

The New Desk and Chair

The new desk and chair were delivered! I'm so glad I got the white chair instead of the a coral one I had considered. The lamp on the desk is temporarily borrowed from the living room to get an idea of size.

I love the printer cabinet that fits under it - it conceals not only the printer but cables, the DSL modem, the router, surge protector, etc. but they're still accessible.

New Slipcover and Temporary Desk

The new slipcover arrived and it was very easy to put it on. The picture also shows my temporary Target desk. I've decided I don't like the desk perpendicular to the sofa - there's no way to put a lamp by the sofa for reading if it's arranged that way.

Desk Delayed

I got in touch with Scan Design about the delivery of my desk this week and found out it's coming from Denmark and now they're saying the end of June. My Mac has been on the dining room table since I gave away the old desk and I knew I wouldn't be able to stand that for another month. I found a cheap folding table at Target that's approximately the size of the new desk. Since I can use it for crafts projects later, I bought it and set it up in the den.

Hmmm...I don't think I'm going to like the way I had planned to arrange the furniture - I think the new desk will be better against the wall or in front of the window. I'll play around with it - there are advantages and disadvantages to both.
